2006 Annual Report

Annual Report

Board of Trustees

of the

Jericho-Underhill Water District

P.O. Box 174

Underhill, Vermont 05489

October 1, 2005 to September 30, 2006

The Jericho-Underhill Water District provides drinking water and fire hydrant access to approximately 900 people within the District. During the past year drinking water supplied to the District averaged approximately 52,800 gallons per day. During this period the results of State required water tests consistently met water quality standards.

The new Poker Hill tank was placed back into service in September 2006 after being off line for several months to allow additional curing of the interior coatings. Water has been tested for volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) and VOC’s are now significantly below Vermont Health Advisory (VHA) limits and meet and exceed State water requirements.

In addition to work on the Poker Hill Tank, the Board worked on other improvements to the District including installing flapper valves on the overflows of the Poker Hill Tank and Maple Ridge Cistern. Other repairs and maintenance during the year included, replacing several customer meters, replacing several shut-off valves, repairing tank-level signal radios, and routine system flushing. The District well pumps were operated manually for a two-day period during the power outage on Maple Ridge last fall. The District honored customer requests to locate water lines, and install outside meter readers.

The Board wishes to acknowledge and thank the Scouts for their contribution to the maintenance of the District system. Boy Scout Troop 627 painted the District Storage Building as a community service project, and Cub Scout Pack 620 painted several fire hydrants.

The Board wishes to thank its employees and volunteers for their work through out the year. If you are a resident of the of the District who would be interested in serving the District as a trustee, officer, or employee, please contact the Board. The Board asks District residents and customers to report water related irregularities such as leaks, wet spots, pressure swings, taste, color, etc. In the past customer reports have been key to finding leaks.

The District website is located at http://jerichounderhillwater.org and contains information including regulations, test results, and water usage reports. The board holds regular monthly, public meetings on the first Monday of each month. These meetings are held at 7:00pm in the basement of the United Church of Underhill located on Park Street in Underhill Flats across from the town green. Residents and voters of the District are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Respectfully submitted,

Peter H. Mitchell, President
