Annual Report

Board of Trustees

of the

Jericho-Underhill Water District

P.O. Box 174

Underhill, Vermont 05489

October 1, 2004 to September 30, 2005

The Jericho-Underhill Water District provides drinking water and fire hydrant access to approximately 875 people within the District. During the past year drinking water supplied to the district averaged approximately 52,300 gallons per day. During this period the results of State required water tests consistently met water quality standards.

Due to customer complaints about water taste during the summer of 2005, the District tested water from the new tank on Poker Hill Road and found certain volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) exceeded advisory limits. The Board is taking action with its tank contractors to correct this.

During the past year the Board has worked to complete the punch list tasks and obtain state certification for the new tank on Poker Hill Road, to complete the repainting of the tank on Maple Ridge, and to calibrate, debug, and integrate the new tank into the system. In addition the District Source Protection Plan was updated, and the Board provided information to the Village Task Force.

The major District improvements including the new tank, which have occurred in the past couple of years provide the district with more storage capacity, better fire flows and more flexibility for system operation and maintenance. The Board acknowledges the contribution of  Marc Maheux, our chief operator, in these improvement projects. He has coordinated the day to day work of these projects while maintaining safe drinking water and fire protection for the District.

Other work of the Board has included installing lightning surge protection for the Maple Ridge Tank, repairs to the cistern, repairing the heater in the control building, replacing the anti-surge valves in the control building, replacing the master flow meter in the control building, coordinating District needs with paving and sidewalk work in Jericho and Underhill, responding to customer requests for service and thawing, replacing, flagging, painting and flushing hydrants, and as needed repairing and replacing meters, shutoffs, and other system infrastructure. Also, the Board purchased a metal detector, a pipe locator, a new remote meter reader, and a laptop computer in the past year.

The Board wishes to thank its employees and volunteers for their work through out the year.  The Board continually seeks members of the District who would be interested in serving the District as trustee, officer, or employee. Please contact the Board if you are interested. The Board also encourages people to report water related irregularities such as leaks, pressure swings, taste, color, etc.

The District website is located at "http://water.jerichounderhill.com". The Board holds regular monthly, public meetings on the first Monday of each month. These meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. in the basement of the United Church of Underhill located on the green on Park Street in Underhill Flats.  Members and voters of the district are welcome and encouraged to attend.

 Respectfully submitted,

 Peter H. Mitchell, President
